Naturally, if you have a specific cut in mind, you ll get the best results using the shaping operations, and you cannot edit a B zier cut s path as you make the cut, but the Knife Tool does provide fast and easy results If you hold both SHIFT and CTRL while click-dragging to make a B zier cut, doing so constrains the direction of the path to 15 increments for more predictable results making the edge of the cut

desktop DirectCD performs the necessary operations transparently, whether you re working with write-once media (CD-R) or rewritable (CD-RW) DirectCD has versions for both Windows and Macintosh, and discs created on one platform can be readily exchanged with the other, even if the disc has not been closed The formatting of a disc to support packet writing requires some overhead For example, a 74-minute CD-R disc formatted under DirectCD, offers 621MB of data storage A CD-RW disc formatted under DirectCD provides a total storage capacity of 531MB Two forms of packet writing exist: xed and variable Under xed packet writing, the packet size written to disc is always the same Using the Macintosh version of DirectCD, only xed packet writing is available Variable packet writing allows the packet size to be adjusted as required to suit the nature of the data being written The Windows version of DirectCD handles both xed and variable packet writing Since this approach provides more ef cient use of the disc storage space, it can be a useful means of archiving or backing les in small batches, unlike standard CD-R multisession write operations, which are not practical for small le backups DirectCD is bundled with many different CD-R/CD-RW recorder packages, including products from Pinnacle Micro, Ricoh, and Hewlett-Packard Company Direct purchases and upgrades are available from the Adaptec Web site (wwwadapteccom)

Auto-Close On Cut mode This option, on by default, sets the Knife Tool to create closed-path objects following any style of Knife Tool cutting If you turn this option off, the Knife Tool divides an object into two open paths and removes any fill This can be a useful mode for breaking a closed shape into open paths To use this option, you don t drag with the Knife Tool, but instead click a near point and a far point Leave As One Object mode This option is active by default; if you disable it, the Knife Tool cuts an object, but the result is a combined path in other words, you don t get two separate objects This option is useful on occasions (for creating characters in typefaces, for example), but it probably would not be an everyday mode of operation for your work

Sony introduced their variation of CD-R packet-writing software as a package that runs as part of the operating system on Windows 95/98/NT, Macintosh, and UNIX systems The software extends the operating system capabilities by allowing the Save As command, provided by most applications for saving les, to direct the le output to a specially formatted recordable disc Recorder support includes Sony s Spressa drives, as well as drives from other manufacturers As interim recordings are made, the only machine that can read the les on the compact disc is the CD recorder itself, until the point at which the nal disc contents are recorded, after which the data can be read by any CD-ROM drive This approach is typical for multi-session CD-R writing: the disc must be nalized with an overall table of contents to provide universal playback
